Call for Applications “EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION IN POLITICS” 2010

The Robert Schuman Institute (RSI) continues with its series of communication trainings in an expanded format, now including presentation, debating and negotiation skills. It is possible to apply for individual trainings as well as the full series.

Invited participants should be young politicians delegated by the EPP member / cooperating parties in Eastern and South Eastern European countries, including Albania, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, FYROMacedonia, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, and Ukraine. Priority will be given to those with candidate status on upcoming elections of any level.

Aim of the Project:  

  -  To help EPP member / cooperating parties by political education and capacity building
-    To provide skills trainings of practical use in political life
-    To bring together like-minded young people from member parties of the political family
-    To promote the public roles and careers of participants by means of education and training, information exchange and network-building

Location: Budapest

Length and Structure of the Series:    Two 3-day trainings as follows (draft):

1. Presentation Skills and Rhetorics Training
(13-15 April 2010, Budapest)

2. Debating Training
(4-6 May 2010, Budapest)

3. Negotiation Training
(10-12 June 2010, Budapest)

One day before is arrival, one day after is departure date.

Target Group:    Young people of at least 22 but not more than 30 years of age (by the start of the first training). Participants (approximately 20 people from the above mentioned countries) are selected on the basis of individual applications recommended by the relevant parties. Priority will be given to candidates in upcoming elections.

Pre-requisites:  

  -   Applicants born between 1980-1988
-    High level written and oral proficiency in English

Working Language :     English

Application Process:    The following documents need to be sent to the Robert Schuman Institute by e-mail (schuman.institute@t-online.hu), completely, arriving by the given deadline:

-    a completed copy of the attached Application Form
-    university diploma copy, or a certification of at least 6 completed semesters
-    2 letters of reference with official letterhead, signature and stamp, scanned in an e-mail attachment:
1    from the delegating party, signed by a responsible official from the leadership (not the youth organisation!), including acceptance of the conditions of participation and an official request for travel support, if needed
2    and a person who knows the applicant well (from the local party branch, work, university, NGO etc.)
-    a one-page motivation letter on why the candidate is interested in the event and how it would help his / her political work.

We will consider complete application packages only.

(Accepted applicants must bring their original reference letters to the first course)

Deadline for Applications:   
09.00 AM, 01 March (Monday), 2010    (arriving at RSI)

Conditions of  Participation:
    •    Preparation of all assignments during training courses
-    Active and full participation in training courses
-    Should a confirmed participant fail to attend a course, cost of the first hotel night as well as any travel support given by RSI must be reimbursed by the delegating party.

Financial Arrangements

The costs of the courses, including lectures, trainings as well as costs of full board and lodging (in double rooms) will be covered by the organisers.

Participants should have their travel costs be paid by their delegating party, or by themselves. RSI is able to provide a limited amount of international travel support if absolutely necessary.
Insurance is to be covered by participants.

Attendance at any training course of the series is mandatory from the very beginning to the very end of the event as this is essential to efficient team-work and the aims of the series.
